Flood of 2006 — August 29, 2006
Yes, this and some other blog entries coming are way over due, but here they are.
June 25th, 2006 around 10:30pm Alexandria and most of the East coast flooded. Our parking lot looked like a bomb went off (first picture below). The drainage gutters got all full of mud and then backed up. Many cars parked over night in our residents parking lot were totaled with flood damage because of the backed up drains. The surrounding area was also flooded. The other picture below shows how two cars apparently floated away and landed on top of each other underneath the Eisenhower/Telegraph Rd. Bridge. The parking garage across the street from our apartment complex had it’s lower level completely flooded out and floating cars were totaled there too. The parking garage filled up with water and dead fish from Cameron Run, the small stream that flows next to it. This small stream eventually rose up so high that the bottom part of Interstate 95 was closed since the flood waters actually rose above a bridge that 95 uses to cross over the run. Anyhow, below are only some of the pictures from the flood. I hope this doesn’t happen again. I took some time off of work to fix some things that got flooded that day. It was a good thing I had some comp time banked up. It was then I discovered that having at least some comp time banked up is a good cautionary measure.
